The Boston Commons consists of 50 acres of land, and includes popular streets such as Tremont Street and Boylston Street. Many attractions of the Commons entice visitors each year, such as The Boston Public Garden, Frog Pond and many historic city buildings. These attractions lend a spot to sit, enjoy the sights, people watch, and stay entertained for hours. Park Street and Boylston Station are other notorious spots to observe travelers coming and going off the subway. The Commons hosts concerts by local talent, plays and other activities that bring people to the area. Park benches line the pathways and allow individuals or couples a quiet time to reflect in the park. The Public Garden is famous for its swan boats and bridge views.

People watching in the Boston Commons is an exciting activity for true-Bostonians and travelers alike. The Commons contain walking paths, play areas and a war monument that allow visitors to stop, take in the scenery and people watch. The walking paths allow peaceful strolls and observation of the pond and local attractions. The Commons is a great escape from the busy hustling and bustling of the city. Boston Commons offers peace and serenity and a place to do some serious people watching.

The State House in Massachusetts contains 160 state representatives, 40 state senators and one wooden cod fish. For over 200 years, this four foot eleven inch wooden cod has hung in the House chamber. The cod is a representation of a fish that once served as fertilizer and food staple for the Pilgrims and is known as the “Sacred Cod”. Ships sailing to the West Indies from Massachusetts would trade the cod for coffee and spices and then travel to Europe trading the cod for fruit, wine and salt.

The first and original cod fish was destroyed and burned in a fire in 1747 at the Old State House. During the Revolutionary War the second cod fish was ruined. The third cod fish dates to approximately 1784 and the maker is unknown. While preparing to move to a new chamber house in 1895, it was debated whether the wooden cod fish would go with them. The decision was to bring the cod to their new location and hang in the House chamber as it always has been a traditional part of the House chamber. In earlier years being that the fishing industry was so very crucial to Massachusetts, the wooden cod represents those days gone by.If you like what you see, keep going: MASSACHUSETTS, USA: Moving right along

Spending an afternoon walking along the impressive spiral ramp in the New England Aquarium is a great way to bond with your family. The cylindrical tank that dominates the center of the aquarium is popular with children and adults alike. Home to almost six hundred sea creatures including the ever popular sand tiger sharks and green sea turtles, the tank is meant to recreate a Caribbean coral reef. Rising four stories high the tank offers a unique view of ocean life. At the very top visitors can look down into the tank, getting the view of the coral reef most people are used to.Check out this link here. But a trip down the ramp will offer a glimpse at marine life usually only seen by scuba divers and marine biologist.
The giant ocean tank is such a central part of the aquarium that it was actually the first part build, the rest of the building was designed around the tank and ramp. Off to the side of the ramp are other exhibits featuring many other types of aquatic life. The penguin exhibit is also extremely popular. Visitors should also be sure to dip their hands in New England’s largest shark and ray touch tank.

Fall is a great time to visit and there are tons of events happening in just weeks. Here are a few of the ones we suggest you don’t miss
Hampton Beach Seafood Festival: Just a few minutes outside of Boston is one of the best seafood festivals in the country and it’s coming up soon! It’s a great excuse to see the areas outside of Boston and get some extra culture.
Halloween Town: Around the end of October a small section of Boston turns into a kid-friendly ghosts and ghouls community perfect for trick or treating or just enjoying the autumn spirit. There’s nothing like fall in a city with history as rich as Boston!
Life is Good: it’s more of a music fest than a festival but such acts as Ray Lamontange will be appearing for a three day stint just outside of town. It’s a real locals-only thing to do so get your tickets early.

Moving to a new city is incredibly exciting. One important aspect to pursue within the first several months of living in a new city is to play tourist. After the typical transition period, everyone begins falling into routines. We stop visiting the remarkable sites worth exploring, and no longer seek the unique adventures to experience. Prior to allowing yourself to do this in Boston, you must dissect each corner of Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts.

Become entranced with the Chihuly exhibit. Dale Chihuly has mastered the art of glass blowing in a way you have never seen. His vivid and explosive colors and creations will keep you mesmerized for hours. Once your senses have reached capacity, take some time to explore their collections of contemporary art, the ancient world, and photography. The museum also offers several programs such as studio art classes, lectures and courses, as well as various programming for youth and children.

Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts is not one of the precious attractions you should allow yourself to forget after adjusting to life in Boston. Become a member, and sign up for classes to ensure you return after your first visit to experience everything the museum has to offer.

While you are visiting Boston with your family, you may want to take a leisurely ride on the Swan Boats in the Boston Public Gardens. The beautiful Swan Boats have been a Boston tradition for many families for over 100 years.

It may be best to get to the gardens early to avoid long lines at the boat ride. Check their website for ride times, as they change by season. If it is raining or very windy, the swan boats will not operate. Sometimes they will be closed in the extreme heat, as they are not air conditioned.

The Swan Boats are very inexpensive. They do not offer coupons, as the rides are less than 3 each. There is no close parking available, so it may be best to use public transportation to travel to the gardens.

Although the Swan Boats are powered by people power, you will not have to work hard to help pedal the boat because there will be several other people on board to help. The Swan Boats are accessible to wheelchairs, so it not necessary to pedal the boat if you are unable. Simply sit back and enjoy the historic ride across the breathtaking lagoon.
